Parent Workdays & Phone Numbers
We are off to a smooth start with Parent Workdays. We appreciate you all making such a sincere
effort to be here for your workdays and for being on time. One thing I’ve learned over the
years is that this Preschool is a living place and sometimes LIFE happens. The best-laid plans
of getting out the door on time are derailed with a really long train, or when a child throws
up half way to school or car accident stops traffic. The following are some hints on what to
do when life throws you a curve ball on a workday.
- Call another parent and trade workdays with them. Then inform the coordinator.
- Call a paid worker (list will be published in the Preschool Directory) arrange to pay
them directly. Inform the coordinator.
Remember it is your responsibility to find a replacement. The Coordinators are available
to help and answer questions but they do not take care of this for you. With over 100
families enrolled in the program they really need your help when it comes to calling other
parents to replace you.
EMERGENCY ITS 8:30 AND YOU HAVE AN UNEXPECTED CRISIS!
- Call the Coordinators: Julie Nesbitt, Dawn Eger, and Rachel Chaplin
- Call the Preschool Direct Line 482-0343. Please do not call the preschool line before 8:00 AM - no one is here!
We appreciate all that you do to keep us informed so we can solve problems promptly and
the children have a smooth start to their days. Thank you for all your efforts you are
so valuable to this program. YOU ARE AWESOME!

Substitutes are paid $30.00 per class and the teacher will arrange the sub day with you ahead or on an emergency basis. Contact Laura if you are interested.

- Refunds for unused Nursery will be issued at the end of the school year.

Easy Peasy Fundraising!
We pride ourselves on not asking our families to participate in active fundraising, but we do participate in some simple passive fundraising to help purchase supplies for our classrooms and to help our fantastic teachers with continuing education expenses. Here are two ways you can help:
Caps 4 Cash is a Morning Fresh Dairy program where schools can earn cash by collecting caps from Morning Fresh Dairy glass bottles. Each cap will be redeemed for 5 cents. Collect your caps and drop them in the milk can outside of Mrs. Elliott’s classroom.
The King Soopers Neighborhood Reward Program will earn our preschool 5% on every $5,000 spent at King Soopers in a four week cycle. There is no extra cost associated with the program. A $5 gift card is redeemable for $5 in merchandise. Gift cards MAY be used at King Soopers or City Market Fuel Centers!
It’s simple! Purchase a $5 RELOADABLE gift card at the preschool desk, then take the card to guest/customer services and reload (add value to) the gift card in any amount up to $500 (you may use credit card, check, or cash). Every time you reload the card, FUMCP will earn 5% of the amount. It adds up quickly!
Cards must be purchased at First United Methodist Coop Preschool, not through the store because cards are linked to our organization. For more information, please visit us at the front desk.

Cubbies
Lots of good things will be appearing in your child’s cubbie from the preschool. Book orders will be showing up soon and many other notes. Please don’t put anything in the children’s cubbies unless approved by the Preschool Director. No announcements about craft shows, parties, book sales, etc. Invitations and thank-you’s aren’t allowed unless there’s one for every child in the class. Use the mail for invitations – kids love to get mail! Rest assured Laura will be happy to check your child’s cubbie for the blankie, stuffed animal, or any other treasure that may have been forgotten at school.

Snacks
We appreciate the contribution our families make to the preschool by providing snack each day. As a parent community you are all concerned about providing nutritional snacks for the class. A few things to keep in mind as your choose the snack for your child’s snack day.
- Please be attentive to your individual class restrictions by reading the labels of items.
- Simple is great! A snack that takes a lot of prep for the parent helpers can be a challenge on busy days.
- Only 100% juice, please! A half gallon is enough for each child to have one cup of juice. 100% water is an excellent drink too!
- Please avoid extremely colorful processed foods with lots of food dye.
- Low in sugar and high fructose corn syrup is important as will.
- No milk, please!
As the year continues we will be giving you some suggestions and if you have a successful snack in your class share the idea with us all!

Restroom Procedures
Teachers should primarily be the adult who helps children who have accidents. If it is impossible for the teacher to assist the child, the preschool director should be contacted to assist the child.
From on the playground (When bringing one or two children in from the playground to use the restroom):
- Inform your teacher who you are taking in
- Open the restroom doors and leave it open
- Monitor the children from the doorway or hall
- If the children need further assistance (toilet accident) call the director from the hall phone - extension 26.
From the classroom (When bringing one or two children to the main hall restroom during class time):
- Open the restroom doors and leave open
- Monitor the children from the doorway or hall
Toileting is very new to some of our three-year-old friends. If a child asks for assistance with personal hygiene, inform the teacher so she can coach the child through. If the teacher is unavailable, you can try and coach the child with suggestions (e.g. "Wrap the toilet paper around your hand, now reach back and wipe.") If this does not work explain that we’ll tell mom or dad when they come, in the mean time we’ll pull up our pants and go play. Inform the teacher as soon as possible.
